This exclusive, vintage Maiogi Dance Fan was made by
Kyosendo
京扇堂,
one of Kyoto’s renown fan makers
.
The original packaging shows that it was made for the famous
西川流家元舞踊
Nishikawa Iemoto Buyo Dance
Troupe of Tokyo in “Heisei 16" or 2004.
It is a striking pheonix design with orange swirls on a lush gold background
.
The struts are deep, relish-brown lacquered bamboo with lead weights. Clearly a very expensive item when new, this would be lovely for dance practice or just for
display.
It came from a collection of vintage fans we have
acquired that are all of superior quality and design and were clearly owned by someone of discerning taste, who was associated with the

his fan is in perfect, unused condition with no frays, bent corners or age-related discoloration. It
comes in its original box and packaging - including the envelope that shows the date it was made and the name of the Buyo dance troupe it was created for
.
The first two photos show the front and back. It measures about 20” or 51cm across when open and is about 11½” or 29cm long when closed.

Note that due to reduced flights, JAPAN POST has suspended Air Parcel service to the USA, Australia and a few other countries (Europe is not effected). It is not known how long this will last but in the meantime, we are using JAPAN POST SURFACE mail which has tracking and insurance but can take about 60 days to the USA.
Alternatively, for an additional charge, YAMATO INTERNATIONAL offers extremely fast door to door service for a flat-rate for their various size boxes. The smallest “60cm” box is to most countries, can hold up to two kg and measures 27 X 19 X 19cm and arrives in about a week.
