Exceptional Original Condition
Vintage 1941 Gretsch 26X14 Bass Drum in Beautiful Blue & Gold Duco Lacquer Finish.
I bought this from an estate in upstate NY 20 years ago where it had been sitting for 25 years in a music room with no direct sunlight. Colors are exceptional and hardware is also quite nice.
Bass Drum was completely disassembled, cleaned, then carefully reassembled, and is all original including the front and rear heads which are the calfskin originals. I'd describe the Bass Drum as very exceptional. The Blue & Gold Duco Lacquer Finish on the Bass Drum is in impressive condition. This finish was applied without a clear top coat, so there's little yellowing like you see on old lacquer, just a slight amount of finish crazing. Extremely little fade and yellowing. See the pictures. Drum looks even better in person. Extremely light weight drum.
The accessories are not all Gretsch, but are period correct and are what where on it when I got it.
The pedal is a very early Ludwig. Muffler is W&A, Bass feet are Gretsch or Ludwig or W&A.
Bass has a light fixture inside. It is original and correct. Players would add these to keep the bass heads tight in humid warm weather.
I had to replace the plug and cord with a newer one due to the original cord insulation flaking off and the original plug being broken. The bulbs and light fixture and attachments are all original.
