Late 1800s Scrapbook Filled w Comics Postcards Black Americana News Articles Ephemera
This is a journal dated 1893 on the cover. The journal itself is in poor condition, as seen in photos. The spine is practically gone with old masking tape applied. Binding is loose. I have no idea if all the pages are present. The journal is a ledger was designed for business use and has a page for each day of the year.
It measures roughly 13 ½” long by 8” across.
As seen in photos, the first couple of pages are from the ledger. After that, the book is filled with period newspaper articles, postcards and comics pasted to the ledger pages. All the items in the journal appear to be from the US. Many are black americana. The pages are filled until about early November. After that they are just normal blank journal pages.
The content of this journal was composed by an unknown previous owner. The only other date, other than the cover, is some of the post cards are dated 1889 copyright. No other dates were found. The scrapbook is a representation of the history of the time, pre -1900, and we do not encourage / support the images in this as some are very offensive now. This really should be shown in a large African American museum or collection.
