The 2.5" x 20", single-headed, North American hard rock maple shell is powerful and musical, able to output a surprising amount of volume and low end. Even so, the real magic of the Pancake Bass Drum lies in its easy mikability. With a specialty kick mic on this drum, it churns out a surprisingly big sound. DW's claw-hook spurs keep the Pancake Bass Drum stable as it's played, and can be removed for traditional gong drum effects or alternative mounting systems. All-maple shell
Like the rest of the DW Design Series from which it hails, the DW Pancake Bass Drum is masterfully crafted from choice plies of North American hard rock maple. Plies are formed in high-pressure, high-heat molds (2600 PSI at 200°F) then immediately Cool Tempered to crystallize the glue, maximizing strength, roundness, and resonance. This results in a musical tone and powerful resonance despite the Pancake Bass Drum's diminutive size.
Stable performance
Traditional biscuit-style bass drums are limited in usefulness by their instability. But thanks to DW's clever claw-hook spur system, the Pancake Bass Drum stands tall and proud behind heavy-footed drummers. Spurs remove in seconds to store the drum in a cymbal case or drum bag, or to accommodate different mounting methods.
